Christmas arrives with the last days of the year we’ve all been waiting for. After a somewhat different Christmas in 2020, we are confident that this one will leave us with a better taste in our mouths. To enjoy and make the most of your days in Granada during this magical holiday season, we suggest some must-see visits: the fantastic and popular Alhambra of Granada, a stroll through the Albaicín neighborhood to discover charming corners, the Cathedral and the Royal Chapel, where the Catholic Monarchs are buried, or the Sacromonte neighborhood, where you can visit some of its gypsy-rooted cave houses.
And, of course, there are also various events and celebrations organized to celebrate Christmas in our city.
– Sound and light show for the whole family to enjoy.
A novelty this year is this fantastic show that will bring together and delight not only the little ones but also the older ones. It takes place in Plaza del Carmen every day until January 6th, from 7:30 PM to 9:30 PM.
– Sledges, zip lines and merry-go-rounds
In Plaza Bib Rambla, on Paseo del Violón, and in Plaza del Humilladero, this year the Ferris wheel is being replaced with sleds, zip lines, and a giant carousel. The little ones will have a great time!
– XIX Passion for Christmas 2021 competition:
As every year, the City Council of Granada organizes a Nativity Scene contest and awards different prizes in the children’s and shop window categories. Of course, you can visit them until January 6th. Some of the ones we recommend visiting are: the Nativity Scene at the San Juan de Dios Museum, at the Casa de los Pisa, the City Hall Nativity Scene, or the one at the Nazarene Brotherhood, whose tradition dates back to the 1980s.
– Christmas Markets
Do you feel like doing some Christmas shopping? Puerta Real and Plaza Bib Rambla Christmas market is the place for you. You’ll find everything from Christmas decorations and nativity scenes to handmade items crafted by local artists. What’s more, you’ll also find several churro stands where you can enjoy some hot chocolate with churros to top off your fantastic evening.
– Monumental Nativity Scene of Huétor
Just 30 minutes from Granada, you’ll find Huétor Tajar and its Monumental Nativity Scene, spanning over 100 square meters. This Nativity Scene showcases different Spanish landmarks and monuments. Several of its figurines are in constant motion, and tradition fills every corner.
If you also want to relax, you must experience one of its Arabic baths, some of which are located in houses from the 13th and 14th centuries. Baths and massages can be found in various places in the city of Granada.
